Africa-Press – Eswatini. In a historic achievement for the local film industry, the epic production “Baka Ngwane: The Birth of a Nation” is set to make its highly anticipated television debut.
The 12-episode Eswatini television series and film will officially premiere on Eswatini TV on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 6:30 PM, marking a proud moment for emaSwati worldwide.
This production chronicles the history, culture, and heritage of the Swati nation. It focuses specifically on the legacy of King Ngwane the Great and the origins of the Bantu-speaking Nguni people, providing a deeper exploration of the journey and royal lineage of the nation.
The official launch of the series took place in December 2025 at a high-profile stakeholder gathering held at Sharma House. This milestone is a result of a strong partnership with the national broadcaster, led by Eswatini TV CEO Mlamuli Dlamini, whose support ensures that local stories reach every home in the kingdom.
One of the most remarkable achievements of this production is its scale. The film featured over 600 local extras drawn from various chiefdoms, making it a true communal masterpiece that physically involves the people in telling their own history. Under the leadership of Producer Sibusiso “Sparks” Dlamini and Director Shaft Moropane, the project has set a new “first-world” standard for local content.
The project, which began in 2018, serves as a mission to protect the Swati identity from external misconceptions. Executive Producer Senator Pholile Shakantu emphasized that the series is a defense of the country’s sovereignty through powerful and authentic storytelling.
Key highlights of this national achievement include:
Historical Accuracy: Years of rigorous research into land concessions and the legal battles of King Sobhuza form the backbone of the script.
Exceptional Performances: Lead actors Samkelo Dlamini (King Matalatala), Mandisa Mamba (Queen Qoshile), and Lawrence Mhlanga bring the ancestors’ sacrifices to life.
National Asset: Minister of ICT Savannah Maziya and Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima have hailed the series as a vital cultural asset for all citizens.
The arrival of “Baka Ngwane” on Eswatini TV is a celebration of the “blood, sweat, and tears” shed by local creatives to document their own heritage. By supporting this Genesis Ekucaleni Media and Tribe Studios production, emaSwati are participating in a movement that refuses to let their history be forgotten.
Don’t miss the chance to witness this landmark achievement in local broadcasting this Sunday, February 22, at 6:30 PM.
