Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) quenched a different kind of thirst at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) today, delivering a major batch of desks to the Kwaluseni Campus to finally furnish a new building and end months of student desperation.
The Managing Director of EWSC, acting on behalf of Jabulile Mashwama, officially handed over the furniture February 13, 2026, marking a personal homecoming for the MD, who is a proud alumna of the institution.
For the EWSC Managing Director, the ceremony was more than just a corporate event; it was a trip down memory lane. Speaking to a crowd of faculty and students, she expressed how deeply personal the gesture was, having walked the same corridors as a student years ago.
Mashwama noted that returning to support the place that shaped her foundation was a special moment, adding that the company was moved to act after seeing a wave of gratitude from students on social media following a previous donation.
The delivery provides a vital lifeline for a university currently drowning in severe financial constraints. Vice Chancellor Professor Justice M. Thwala was candid about the institution’s struggle, revealing that while they have successfully secured a state-of-the-art building from the Motsepe Foundation, they lacked the internal budget to actually seat students inside it. This donation serves as the missing piece of the puzzle, ensuring that the new infrastructure does not sit empty but can be utilized by the student body immediately.
The atmosphere at the Kwaluseni Campus today stood in sharp contrast to the start of the semester, which was defined by placards and student demonstrations. Secretary General of the SRC, Sabatha Zikalala, did not mince words when acknowledging the journey it took to reach this point. He reminded those in attendance that students had previously engaged in protests specifically demanding better furniture and basic learning tools.
Zikalala expressed that the student community is now more than grateful to see a major corporation respond directly to their needs, calling the handover a major win for those who stood up for their right to a quality education. By bridging the gap between a modern exterior and a functional interior, the EWSC has ensured that the “thirst” for resources at UNESWA no longer goes unquenched.
