Africa-Press – Eswatini. Every beginning of the year and schools opening brings excitement, hope, and renewed dreams for thousands of learners across Eswatini. As books are opened and classrooms fill once more, it is also a time to reflect on the responsibility we all share in keeping our children safe, especially around electricity. EEC promotes “Safety First and Zero Tolerance to deaths”, “Gesi Muhle, kodwa uyingoti, futsi uyabulala!!!”
Through the Back-to-School Safety Campaign, Power Smart, Learn Safe, Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has taken a proactive step in ensuring that learners, parents, and educators understand the importance of electrical safety at school and at home. The campaign is built on a simple but powerful belief: education thrives best in safe environments.
Electricity plays a critical role in modern learning. It powers classrooms, enables digital education, and supports school operations. Yet, when not handled with care, it can pose serious risk, especially to curious young minds. The campaign therefore aims to reduce electricity-related accidents, raise awareness, and empower school going children with knowledge that protects lives.
Back to School Safety Campaign…
At the heart of the initiative is the message that safety is everyone’s responsibility. From the roads learners walk each morning to the classrooms where they study, vigilance is essential. Children are encouraged to stay away from fallen power lines, avoid playing near electrical infrastructure, and report hazards immediately. Parents are reminded to guide and supervise, while teachers are empowered to be safety custodians in the classrooms and make sure the classrooms environment is safe for learners, supported with safety audits and educational materials to maintain secure learning spaces.
Back to School Safety Campaign…
The campaign’s outreach has extended across regions through school visits, safety talks, and interactive engagements. Learners are not only taught how to identify electrical dangers but are also empowered to become ambassadors of safety in their homes and communities. This approach ensures that knowledge travels beyond the classroom and becomes part of everyday behaviour.
Importantly, the initiative reflects a broader commitment by EEC to serve as more than an electricity provider. It reinforces the organization’s role as a community partner invested in the wellbeing of the nation’s children. By collaborating with educators and the teachers, the campaign strengthens a culture of awareness and responsibility that will endure long after the school calnder ends.
The message remains clear: safety begins with awareness and is sustained through action. When learners understand how to respect electricity, when schools maintain safe infrastructure, and when communities remain alert to hazards, lives are protected and futures secured.
“Power Smart, Learn Safe” is therefore not just a campaign, it is a national call to action. It reminds us that protecting our children is a shared duty, and that through knowledge, partnership, and vigilance, we can ensure every learner walks, studies, and returns home safely.
