LOBAMBA – The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) conducted civic and voter education sessions in rural communities on Saturday to strengthen public understanding of democratic participation and governance.

The sessions were held at Luyengweni Umphakatsi and Macetjeni Umphakatsi, where residents gathered to learn about their role in democratic processes and community development.

Community members from surrounding areas attended the engagements, which focused on promoting citizen participation, good governance and inclusiveness as key pillars of a strong democratic society.

During the sessions, EBC officials engaged residents through presentations and open discussions aimed at explaining the importance of civic participation. Officials highlighted that active involvement by citizens helps strengthen democratic institutions and promotes accountability in governance.

Residents listened attentively as officials outlined the roles and responsibilities of citizens in governance processes. The interactive sessions also created an opportunity for community members to ask questions and share their views on matters relating to civic engagement and democratic participation.

The meetings were conducted under a tent where community members gathered to interact with the officials in an open and inclusive environment.

According to the commission, the civic and voter education outreach forms part of ongoing programmes designed to strengthen democratic awareness across the country.

Officials emphasised that educating citizens about governance processes helps empower communities and encourages people to take an active role in decision-making within their constituencies.

Community members were also encouraged to work closely with institutions responsible for managing electoral processes to ensure transparency, fairness and accountability.

The Elections and Boundaries Commission reiterated its commitment to continuing civic education programmes in communities across the country. The initiative aims to ensure that citizens remain informed about their civic rights and responsibilities while contributing to the development of a more inclusive and participatory society.

Officials said such outreach programmes play an important role in strengthening democracy by ensuring that citizens at grassroots level are equipped with the knowledge needed to actively participate in national governance processes.
