Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has denied attempting to fire Savannah Maziya, the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).
Responding to Members of Parliament (MPs) this week, the PM said he never fired the Minister but worth-noting, Minister Maziya when speaking in the same Parliament, confirmed a story published suggesting that, the PM attempted to fire her.
“Yes I was fired,” the Minister told Parliament but, it subsequently transpired that, the King had not approved the Prime Minister’s request to dismiss Minister Maziya.
The Information Minister was responding to a question asked by Mbabane East MP Welcome Dlamini last week but, the Prime Minister subsequently denied that he attempted to fire her.
“We have no record or instrument where the Minister was fired, hence she has been part of Cabinet and Parliament and has continued to draw a salary,” said the Prime when responding to Members of Parliament.
On another note, ICT Minister Savannah Maziya told Parliament that, after the PM attempted to fire her inside his Parliament Office, she contacted Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo who informed her that, the Prime Minister does not have powers to dismiss a Cabinet Minister.
