Africa-Press – Eswatini. MBABANE: The Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) is currently functioning without a Governing Board after some stakeholders including Business Eswatini rejected Derrick Shiba, the former Inyatsi Construction Managing Director as the Chairman.
The Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) is currently functioning without a Governing Board after some stakeholders including Business Eswatini rejected Derrick Shiba, the former Inyatsi Construction Managing Director as the Chairman.
Responding on Monday, newly appointed ENPF Chairman Derrick Shiba confirmed the challenges within the Governing Board but said, he can’t “comment as the matter is being addressed or handled” by the appointing authority.
“It’s true there are challenges within the ENPF Governing Board but it wouldn’t be proper for me to comment on a matter handled by the appointing authority. Let’s wait for Cabinet to find solutions,” said the Provident Fund Board Chairman.
It has been disclosed that, Business Eswatini and other stakeholders rejected the new Chairman saying, the Chairmanship was supposed to be occupied by a representative from Business Eswatini.
Nathie Dlamini, the Business Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who doubles as a member of the ENPF Governing Board previously told this publication that, the matter “has been referred to Cabinet through Labour and Social Security Minister Phila Buthelezi”
Efforts to seek a comment from the Labour and Social Security Minister proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, the challenges within the Eswatini National Provident Fund come at a time when the State owned entity is in the conversion process into a National Pension Fund.
It is alleged that, Chairman Derrick Shiba has been inviting Board members to a meeting but failed to form a quorum and as a result, he subsequently wrote to Labour and Social Security Minister Phila Buthelezi seeking his intervention in finding solutions to the ongoing challenges within the ENPF Governing Board.
