Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane has recorded significant transformation over the past four decades, evolving from a modest mountain-set administrative town into a rapidly modernising capital shaped by sustained national development efforts between 1986 and 2026.
The remarks were made by Mbabane Municipal Council Chief Executive Officer Gciniwe Fakudze while congratulating His Majesty King Mswati III on 40 years of reign, highlighting the capital’s development journey under his leadership.
As the administrative and economic hub of Eswatini, Mbabane has undergone major infrastructure expansion, including road upgrades, improved urban planning, and strengthened public service delivery systems. These developments have supported increased mobility, business activity, and connectivity within the city and surrounding areas.
Over the years, government-led investment in transport networks has improved access into and out of the capital, while urban development initiatives have supported the growth of residential areas, commercial zones, and institutional facilities. The city has also seen gradual integration of digital systems aimed at improving efficiency in service delivery and communication.
Fakudze said the city’s progress reflects a long-standing national development vision that continues to shape urban growth and innovation.
She noted that Mbabane’s transformation aligns with broader efforts to modernise infrastructure and expand opportunities for residents, positioning the capital as a growing centre for investment and innovation.
“The growth of Mbabane is a living testament of the King’s love for his people and his commitment to progress,” she said.
Fakudze added that the municipality remains committed to strengthening service delivery and advancing urban sustainability as part of its long-term planning.
“As custodians of the capital, we renew our pledge to continue building a city that reflects the dignity and excellence of His Majesty’s reign, a city that is inclusive, innovative, and sustainable for generations to come,” she said.
The council has emphasised its focus on enhancing digital transformation, improving infrastructure resilience, and promoting inclusive urban development that benefits all residents.
With ongoing investment and planning, Mbabane continues to position itself as a forward-looking capital, driven by innovation, improved governance, and a commitment to sustainable urban growth.
