Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Judicial Service Commission has moved to strengthen judicial capacity at the Siteki Magistrate’s Court with the appointment of three magistrates, a development expected to significantly improve the administration of justice in the Lubombo region.

The newly appointed magistrates — Zwelithini Magagula, Lungile Shongwe and Thulani Dlamini — bring with them valuable courtroom experience, having all previously served in acting capacities within the judiciary.

Boosting Judicial Capacity

The appointments come at a critical time when the Siteki Magistrate’s Court has been grappling with a growing backlog of cases. According to judiciary officials, the addition of three full-time magistrates is expected to ease pressure on the court and accelerate the handling of both civil and criminal matters.

Introducing the appointees, Nosipho Mazibuko said the move forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the efficiency of the country’s judicial system.

She noted that increasing the number of magistrates on the bench would allow the court to process cases more quickly, ultimately improving turnaround times and reducing delays that have long frustrated members of the public.

Experienced Hands on the Bench

Magagula and Dlamini previously served as acting magistrates in Nhlangano, where they handled a range of cases and gained practical experience in courtroom management and legal adjudication.

Shongwe, on the other hand, has been serving as an acting magistrate at the Siteki Magistrate’s Court, making the transition into a substantive role a natural progression.

Their familiarity with court processes and procedures is expected to allow them to quickly integrate into their new roles and begin contributing to the court’s workload without delay.

Improving Access to Justice

Mazibuko emphasised that the appointments are not only about reducing backlog but also about enhancing access to justice for communities in and around Siteki.

Residents in the Lubombo region have in the past faced prolonged waiting periods for their cases to be heard, a challenge that often results in increased legal costs and emotional strain for those seeking justice.

“With more magistrates on the ground, we expect to see a more efficient flow of cases and improved service delivery,” she said.

Part of Broader Judicial Reforms

The reinforcement of the Siteki court is part of ongoing efforts by the judiciary to modernise and strengthen the legal system in Eswatini. Authorities have been implementing a range of measures aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and public confidence in the justice system.

These include addressing staffing shortages, improving infrastructure, and enhancing case management systems across various courts in the country.

The deployment of additional magistrates is seen as a key step in ensuring that justice is not only delivered, but delivered in a timely and effective manner.

Positive Outlook for Court Operations

With the new appointments now in effect, expectations are high that the Siteki Magistrate’s Court will experience a noticeable improvement in its operations.

Legal practitioners and members of the public alike are hopeful that the increased capacity will lead to faster case resolution and a more responsive justice system.

As the judiciary continues to prioritise efficiency and accessibility, the latest move signals a clear commitment to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring that justice reaches every corner of the Kingdom.
