Africa-Press – Eswatini. Young members of the Eswatini Man and the Biosphere Youth Network recently took part in an educational excursion to Mlawula Nature Reserve, promoting environmental awareness and conservation of Eswatini’s natural heritage.

The programme provided practical learning experiences, allowing participants to engage directly with nature through structured activities and guided sessions within the reserve.

A key highlight of the visit was the Khabane Cave Explorer Walk, where participants explored geological formations and gained insight into the country’s natural history.

Officers from the Eswatini National Trust Commission facilitated sessions on biodiversity, ecosystems and the importance of protecting wildlife habitats in the Lubombo region. Participants also took part in a guided safari, observing wildlife while learning about ecological balance and conservation practices.

The network said the initiative is part of its broader mission to empower young people through practical learning and active participation in environmental protection.

Vice Chairperson Phetsile Sibandze encouraged youth to take responsibility for preserving the country’s natural resources.

“Our country is blessed with incredible natural heritage, and protecting it is not only the responsibility of leaders and organisations, but of us as young people,” said Sibandze.

She said the network creates opportunities for young people to grow and contribute meaningfully to sustainability efforts.

“Young people have the opportunity to learn, lead and actively participate in building a greener and more sustainable future for our nation,” she said.

Sibandze said participation in the programme helps young people develop leadership skills, teamwork and a strong sense of environmental responsibility.

She added that the initiative enables youth to become active voices in conservation while connecting with others who share a passion for protecting the environment.

The network said such programmes play an important role in strengthening environmental awareness and equipping young people with practical knowledge to support conservation efforts.

More eco-engagement activities are expected to continue as part of ongoing efforts to involve youth in protecting Eswatini’s natural heritage.

The initiative is expected to inspire more young people to take part in conservation and contribute to a sustainable future for the country.
