Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) is accelerating its push to broaden financial access through strategic global partnerships, following high-level engagements at the Spring Meetings.

Governor Dr Phil Mnisi met with Alfred Hannig of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) on April 15, 2026, to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening inclusive financial systems.

The discussions focused on unlocking opportunities to expand access to financial services, particularly for underserved communities and small businesses, segments increasingly recognised as critical drivers of economic growth. Enhanced access to savings, credit, and investment tools is expected to improve business sustainability and stimulate broader economic participation.

Dr Mnisi highlighted Eswatini’s ongoing reforms in financial sector development, noting that international partnerships remain essential in modernising regulatory frameworks and adopting global best practices. He emphasised that collaboration with institutions like AFI enables the country to scale innovative solutions that support inclusive growth.

Hannig commended CBE’s proactive approach within the AFI network and outlined new funding and investment opportunities aligned with financial inclusion goals. He pointed to emerging areas such as cybersecurity as key sectors where private capital could complement public-sector initiatives.

The engagement signals a growing alignment between Eswatini’s financial sector strategy and global inclusion frameworks, positioning the country to attract investment while strengthening resilience within its financial ecosystem.

Strengthened partnerships of this nature are expected to play a pivotal role in reducing barriers to formal financial systems, ultimately supporting entrepreneurship, job creation, and long-term economic expansion.
