Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini Government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has urged members of the public to maintain a clean environment ahead of the upcoming Ruby Celebrations marking 40 years of King Mswati III’s reign and his 58th birthday.
The appeal comes as preparations intensify for the national event scheduled for 24 April 2026 at Somhlolo National Stadium, where thousands of emaSwati and visitors are expected to gather.
Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Mlandvo Dlamini indicated that cleanliness across the country will play a key role in projecting a positive national image during the celebrations. He assured the nation that preparations were going well from all those expected to participate during the event.
Cleanliness Key to Attracting Investment and Tourism
Authorities have emphasised that maintaining a clean and orderly environment could help position Eswatini as an attractive destination for tourists and potential investors.
A clean country, officials noted, reflects discipline, organisation, and pride—qualities that are essential in encouraging business confidence and economic growth. Increased investment and tourism are also seen as critical in creating employment opportunities and reducing poverty levels.
The call for cleanliness extends beyond urban centres to include rural areas, public spaces, and residential communities, as the entire country prepares to host the significant national event.
Call for Public Cooperation and Respect
Government has also encouraged citizens to contribute positively towards the success of the celebrations in any way possible. This includes maintaining cleanliness, supporting event preparations, and demonstrating responsible behaviour throughout the festivities.
Members of the public have further been urged to uphold respect and unity during the celebrations, as these values are considered essential in ensuring a successful and dignified national event.
The appeal was made at Somhlolo National Stadium on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, following rehearsal activities ahead of the main celebration.
Preparations Continue for Historic Celebration
As the countdown to the Ruby Celebrations continues, preparations remain in full swing, with organisers, participants, and government agencies working collaboratively to ensure the event’s success.
The celebrations are expected to highlight Eswatini’s cultural heritage, national unity, and development achievements over the past four decades.
Government has reiterated that the cooperation of all emaSwati will be vital in ensuring that the country presents itself in the best possible light during this historic occasion.
