Africa-Press – Eswatini. Kwaluseni MP Sibusiso Mabhanisi Dlamini’s son Busa allegedly shot at three people yesterday morning.
It is alleged that Dlamini, who is also a member of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), fired three warning shots before shooting at the suspects in what was reported to be self-defence after he was allegedly attacked at a drinking spot next to his home.
The three persons are reported to have been rushed to hospital following the incident.
It has been reported that Dlamini attempted to flee the scene but was chased down and he opened fire after one of the shot persons attempted to stab him with a sharp object.
The incident was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati yesterday afternoon. Vilakati confirmed that three people were shot in the early hours of yesterday morning at Mbhuleni area.
“It is true that three people were shot at yesterday and rushed to hospital. The suspect has been arrested and police investigations are still ongoing,” confirmed Vilakati.
The incident, which left the Dlamini family in shock, is one of many incidents that have befallen the family in a space of one year.
In other incidents, the MP was attacked in the area during the delivery of a petition by the youth. In another incident, the Kwaluseni Inkhundla was set alight by unknown arsonists after the MP was summoned to testify in the ongoing case involving the two arrested MPs.
Meanwhile, sources close to this matter said the incident took place in one of the drinking holes situated near the MP’s home at Mbhuleni in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Altercation
It is alleged that the shooting took place after an altercation between the suspect and some of the residents following his intervention when a young women’s mobile phone was stolen at the entrance of the drinking spot.
The source narrated that he had just arrived at the homestead when he saw Dlamini at the gate with a group of people from around the area.
“According to what I witnessed, an altercation ensued after a young woman’s phone was allegedly stolen. I also saw one of the residents chased down by a group of people after which Dlamini intervened,” said the source.
Another source close to the matter stated that when Dlamini intervened and urged the patrons not to stab each other, the mob turned against him. However, when Dlamini was attacked and hit with a beer bottle and fists while tussling with one of the people who were shot, he fired three warning shots while they were wrestling on the ground and that was when the rest of the crowd moved away from the scene.
It was also stated by another source that Dlamini fled from the scene after exchanging words with the crowd who were angered and overheard calling him the son of Mangololo and also exchanged unkind words related to his line of work as a police officer.
He is said to have rushed to his father’s car in an attempt to flee the scene.
“That was when the mob attacked him and attempted to close the gate but he managed to drive out of the scene and headed home,” he said.
It was also gathered that Dlamini was attacked while in the vehicle whit a sharp object but he managed to defend himself and opened fire at his attackers while inside the vehicle.
One of the bullets damaged the windscreen of the vehicle he was in.
The mob is said to have vandalised the vehicle and threw objects, damaging the rear window.
He is said to have informed his father who was not at home during the incident, who later took him to the police station.
