Africa-Press – Eswatini. Minister of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) Princess Sikhanyiso says as the ministry is advocating for research ethical research that does not infringe human rights.
The princess was speaking during the tabling of the National Research Council Bill (NRCB) and the National Archive and Records Bill, 2020 to the House of Senate, ICT Portfolio Committee at the Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini.
She said the National Research Council Bill would advocate for research performed in a godly manner as many countries tend to exploit humans for research, stating that for many countries, human trafficking was a concern as people were held hostage for research purposes.
“The NRCB will establish a favourable environment for research and development where they could recalculate the country’s imports, exports ratio and ban certain products to spare local production and award monopolies,” she said.
The minister also revealed that through medical research, they would be able to investigate the top 10 diseases in Eswatini and sought preventative measures or cure.
“We will be able to also study employment and income generation to bring the youthful masses on board,” she said.
The minister said through this bill they would be able to establish a National Research Council which would provide the coordination and funding of research science, technology and innovation in the country.
