Africa-Press – Eswatini. MBABANE Highlanders have parted ways with their five experienced players ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Top of the list is midfielder Menzi Mamba and former Sihlangu left back, Sanele Mkhweli.
The industrious midfielder was one of the longest serving players in the club, having joined them almost four seasons ago from Matsapha United.
Left-back Mkhweli had spent only a season with the team.
Mkhweli fell out of favour with coach Selaotse ’Sly’ Mosala after the arrival of Delisa Gama.
Completing the list is the South African trio of centre back David ‘GP’ Molekuli, winger Nkosinathi Fakude and Tsepho Chaine.
Towering centre back Ndumiso ’Tower’ Ndaba has been shunning the team’s activities after his contract expired.
An insider within the team revealed that the players had already been served with letters of contract termination.
“The five players have been released. They’ve not been part of the team’s activities since the pre-season started,” said the source.
Highlanders Chief Executive Officer, Clement Dlamini referred all questions to the Public Relations Officer Mandla Madonsela.
Meanwhile, Madonsela said he had not received any formal correspondence concerning the matter.
“Nothing has reached my office so far,” he said.
Attempts were also made to reach the team’s boss Ally Kgomongwe but his phone rang unanswered.
The crowd pulling side recently played a series of practice matches with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants in preparation for the new campaign.
The ‘Black Bull’ will face Denver Sundowns in the Bible Society Cup on Saturday at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The capital city giants will also compete in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing second during the recently ended campaign.
