Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sebenta National Institute Chief Executive Officer, Thembinkosi Mamba, has reminded Emaswati that education should not be viewed merely as a means to obtain certificates, but as a lifelong tool for empowerment and transformation.

Speaking during the Sebenta Literacy Awareness Walk held at Nhlangano City Centre Park yesterday, Mamba said true education lies in the ability to apply what one learns to improve lives, create opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

“Going to school is not about securing a certificate, but about knowing what to do with the education you gain,” Mamba emphasised to participants and community members gathered for the event.

The literacy walk, hosted by Sebenta National Institute in collaboration with partners including Imisebe Publishing, ESRIC, and other stakeholders, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and lifelong learning in communities. Participants marched from SOS Children’s Village to the city centre, carrying banners and chanting slogans that promoted reading, writing, and continuous learning.

Mamba noted that literacy remains a cornerstone of personal and national growth, especially in a fast-changing digital world. He encouraged learners and adults alike to embrace education not just for formal recognition but for practical use in entrepreneurship, job creation, and community upliftment.

“Sebenta continues to open doors for all EmaSwati — young and old — to learn, grow, and shape their own futures. Literacy is freedom,” he added.

The event drew participation from schools, government departments, and private institutions, all uniting under the theme of “Promoting Literacy for All.”

Through such initiatives, Sebenta National Institute continues to champion its mission of promoting literacy, skills development, and lifelong learning opportunities across Eswatini — ensuring that education truly becomes a tool for empowerment rather than mere certification.
