Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Health has moved to allay public fears over alleged shortages of the rabies vaccine, assuring the nation that the life-saving drug is in stock and available through official channels.
Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula, responding to Eswatini Positive News after reports of a patient seeking help from MP Welcome Dlamini, who in turn sought assistance from His Excellency Kareem Ashraf, confirmed that rabies vaccines were procured and delivered to the Central Medical Stores weeks ago.
“Anti-rabies drugs are one of the medicines we have struggled with for some time, but they were eventually procured and delivered. The delay in delivery of the drugs to facilities is regretted and will be addressed immediately,” Matsebula said.
The Minister stressed that the Ministry will not tolerate a situation where citizens are forced to buy medicines that are already available within public health stores. “It is not acceptable by any standards,” he emphasized.
Digital System to Strengthen Supply Chain
Matsebula revealed that the Ministry is introducing a modern digital monitoring system to strengthen drug distribution across the country. The system will allow real-time tracking of stock levels, consumption rates, expiry dates, and product locations, ensuring that health facilities and the Central Medical Stores are fully aligned.
This innovation is expected to close communication gaps, speed up delivery, and improve accountability within the health supply chain.
Assurance to Emaswati
The Minister expressed confidence that the reforms will eliminate unnecessary shortages, improve efficiency, and deliver better health outcomes for the nation.
“The transformation that we are busy with will result in much more impressive service delivery and a healthcare system Emaswati can depend on,” Matsebula said.
