Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Health Systems Strengthening for Human Capital Development Project, supported by the World Bank, has successfully concluded, leaving a lasting impact on Eswatini’s healthcare sector.
The closure function, today October1,2025 at Mountain View in Mbabane, highlighted major achievements in improving access to cancer screening and treatment.
Xolisile Dlamini, Head of the National Coordinating Cancer Unit, said the project was a lifeline for the department, “With the project support, we were able to acquire screening equipment and address a major barrier to care: lack of treatment due to financial constraints,” Dlamini said. “Now, citizens can access both screening and treatment at their nearest health facilities.”
Since the start of the project, coverage of facilities offering cancer screening and treatment has grown from 70% to an impressive 92%.
She mentioned that today the government is expected to receive three additional trucks, each costing E1.7 million, to add to the one already in use. The trucks will be distributed across the four regions, strengthening logistics for healthcare delivery. Over the five-year period, a total of E11,520,000 was invested in the project.
Dlamini urged citizens to take advantage of the expanded services, emphasizing the importance of regular screening. “Early detection saves lives. We encourage all Emaswati to continue attending screenings and make use of the treatment options available,” she said.
The successful closure of this project marks a significant milestone in Eswatini’s fight against cancer, leaving the healthcare system better equipped, more accessible, and ready to meet the needs of its people.
