Africa-Press – Eswatini. Radio veteran Makhosi Khoza has been appointed as the new Station Manager of Rise FM, marking a return to the station where he once hosted the breakfast show.
With more than three decades of experience behind the microphone and in management, Khoza steps into the role with a bold vision to unify, innovate, and elevate the Mpumalanga-based station.
For Khoza, the appointment represents both a personal milestone and a professional challenge.
“It’s an awesome opportunity, and I’m up for the challenge. If you’re not stretched, you don’t grow, so I’m in a happy space,” he said.
Khoza’s career spans community, campus, regional, national, and international radio. He has worked with major media houses including Kagiso Media, Primedia, SABC, BBC, and Arena Holdings. Beyond broadcasting, he has authored three books on radio content, facilitated numerous workshops, and mentored scores of aspiring broadcasters across South Africa and beyond.
Born in Mbabane and raised in Selection Park, Khoza’s early journey was shaped by mentorship from the late Nomvula Motsa at EBIS 2. His contributions to radio have earned him industry recognition, including a nomination for Best Breakfast Show at the 2018 Liberty Radio Awards.
Now at the helm of Rise FM, Khoza is steering the station with a strategic three-pronged approach: growing revenue, expanding reach, and adapting to evolving audience and technology trends.
“The only constant is change, and media isn’t immune to that. The trick is to embrace digital and social media but not become it. AI and algorithms should be tools to enhance productivity, not replace the essence of radio,” he explained.
A central pillar of his leadership is to strengthen Rise FM’s identity as a unifying force in Mpumalanga.
“Our primary goal is to connect the province through edutainment. Not everyone is a great storyteller, but everyone has a story. The best stories are told around a campfire – we must be the fireplace,” he said.
Khoza also plans to prioritize talent development, diversified content, and community outreach. His mentorship track record – from EBIS to Ukhozi FM – underscores his passion for nurturing the next generation of broadcasters.
Rise FM is also preparing to welcome a new Marketing Manager, a move expected to boost on-air activities and community engagement ahead of the festive season.
With his wealth of experience and forward-thinking vision, Makhosi Khoza is poised to lead Rise FM into a new era of growth, relevance, and deeper connection with its audience.
