Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Mbabane Church of the Nazarene has extended a compassionate hand to inmates at the Mbabane Correctional Centre in sidvwashini by donating toiletries worth E4,540, a gesture aimed at restoring dignity and promoting wellbeing.
The donation, which included essentials such as body lotion, roll-on, and toothpaste, was presented during a special ceremony attended by Deputy Commissioner General of His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) Bongani Khumalo, Deputy Officer-in-Charge Superintendent Nokuthula Maseko, Reverend Grace Masilela, and members of the congregation.
Access to hygiene items is more than just about cleanliness—it is about health, dignity, and hope. These basic necessities help prevent disease, reduce infections, and nurture self-worth, which plays a key role in rehabilitation.
Deputy Commissioner General Khumalo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the church, noting that such acts of kindness touch lives in profound ways. He explained that the inspiration came after the church hosted a prayer service for essential service workers earlier this year, where congregants learned of the challenges inmates face, especially the shortage of hygiene supplies.
“After hearing about these challenges, the church raised funds to support the inmates, and this initiative is greatly appreciated,” Khumalo said. He encouraged continued collaboration between faith-based groups and HMCS in rehabilitating and reintegrating offenders into society.
One inmate, speaking on behalf of his fellow prisoners, thanked the church for its generosity and praised HMCS for building bridges with faith-based organisations. He said the donation gave them hope and contributed to their holistic development.
Reverend Masilela reminded the gathering of God’s boundless love, sharing from 1 John 4:7, and praised her congregation for showing compassion. “We are grateful to god for giving us the ability to extend His love through service,” she said.
The Mbabane Nazarene Church’s act of kindness not only uplifted spirits but also reaffirmed the power of community in transforming lives.
