PUDEMO Urges PAP to Support Democratic Reforms in Eswatini

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Velaphi Mamba, the Treasurer General of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) has accused King Mswati of killing pro-democracy activists in the tiny Kingdom of eSwatini merely for demanding democracy.

The PUDEMO leader was addressing the Pan African Parliament(PAP) on Monday during the “Impact of military coups and the militarization of politics on constitutionalism and democracy in Africa” Conference held in Midrand-South Africa.

Mamba demanded to know when a coup becomes acceptable particularly in the case of eSwatini where an absolute Monarch is ruling the country and refusing to democratize.

“If the Swazis ultimately decide that it is time to wage a coup against the King, what will happen to this region because this region is quiet”, said the PUDEMO leader.

Eswatini is a tiny Kingdom ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch, political parties are banned from participating in elections while human rights defenders are arrested, tortured or even killed for demanding democracy.
