{"id":10392,"date":"2022-08-08T12:48:33","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T12:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eswatini\/all-news\/men-should-marry"},"modified":"2022-08-08T13:56:40","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T13:56:40","slug":"men-should-marry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eswatini\/all-news\/men-should-marry","title":{"rendered":"\u2018MEN SHOULD MARRY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span><b> Lomahasha resident Maria Mbowane says men should take responsibility and marry all the women they impregnate.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The resident said married men had a tendency of hiding their rings when proposing love to women only to turn against them once they were pregnant and run back to their wives, leaving the young girls with the burden of raising their children alone.<\/p>\n<p>This was during the ongoing stakeholder consultation undertaken by MPs who form the ministry of justice and constitutional affairs portfolio committee on the Marriage Bill and Matrimonial Property Bill on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The latest engagement conducted by the committee was with Lomahasha constituents, who came in their numbers to make their submissions. It was notable that a majority of the residents who were the elderly. Mbowane said she would not dwell much onto the issue of cohabitation, submitting that a majority of the children they were forced to raise with limited resources were as a result of men\u2019s infidelity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen have a tendency to live with women and have children with them while they were not married only to dump them later and move on to marry other women, leaving the children as a burden to the women and their families,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said children nowadays no longer listened to them as their parents and the people responsible for this were the men who impregnated young women and dumped them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI insist that cohabitation should be abolished so that the country could go back to how things were done in the past, where no women fell pregnant outside marriage and if they did, the men were compelled to marry them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said a majority of married men had a tendency to hide their rings and conceal their marriage status, only to turn and inform the women that they were married and were not interested in raising the children.<\/p>\n<p>She said some men went to the extent of threatening to kill or hurt the women if they wanted to expose them to their wives and families. She said these men were destroying families because of their infidelity. She pleaded with Parliament to consider enacting a law that would compel men to marry all the women they had children with.<\/p>\n<p>He said this would go a long way towards eliminating cohabitation.<\/p>\n<p>Portfolio Committee Chairperson Sibusiso Mabhanisi Dlamini said such men were setting a bad example for all men in the country.
