Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>ESWATINI\u2019S sprinter Sibusiso \u2018Swazi Bolt\u2019 Matsenjwa is the only athlete from the SADC region who reached the 200m finals during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.<\/b><\/p>\n

Matsenjwa was in action on Saturday evening, where he was a lone representative from the Southern African Development Community region during the finals.<\/p>\n

This was after the South African duo of Shaun Maswanganyi and Luxolo Adams failed to make it to the knockout stage.<\/p>\n

Despite putting up a valiant effort, he was unable to get a podium finish placed seventh overall with a time of 20.92s in what was his last appearance in the once in four years multi-sporting codes event.<\/p>\n

The Royal Eswatini Police service athlete was up against the defending 200m champion Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago, who eventually won the gold medal on the finals after setting a games record. Matsenjwa clocked the season\u2019s best time of 20.81s in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Matsenjwa said he was grateful for the support he had received from the nation during the competition and was ready for the next chapter in his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a massive journey, I\u2019m thankful for all the positive support and backing while representing Eswatini inn my last Commonwealth games. All my focus now is on what\u2019s ahead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He recently represented the country in the rescheduled 2020 Olympic Games and 2022 African senior championships, where he reached the semi-finals in both competitions.<\/p>\n
