Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>South Africa-based businessman Thabo Shabangu is heavily linked with Mbabane Swallows.<\/b><\/p>\n

He is said to be one of the candidates earmarked for the co-directorship position at the capital city giants. A co-director is needed to work hand-in-hand with the team\u2019s President Archbishop Bheki Lukhele, who is said to have given the team an instruction to get him a partner. Lukhele had taken over from slain Chairman Victor \u2018Maradona\u2019 Gamedze over three years ago.<\/p>\n

Following the directive to search for a co-director, Swallows\u2019 task team, comprising senior officials and elders, is said to have cast the net wide by engaging the South African businessman, who was once linked with some of the country\u2019s top teams, including Manzini Wanderers. Shabangu, who has various business interests in South Africa, confirmed being engaged by Swallows, but preferred not to say much pending the said meeting. \u201cI will be coming down to Eswatini to discuss the issue with Swallows in the new week. I can\u2019t say much until we meet. Swallows had contacted me. There is nothing concrete at this stage,\u201d he stressed. This publication had contacted him to test the veracity of the claims linking him with Swallows and he stressed that he would be in position to clear the air upon coming down to Eswatini. Swallows have been in the spotlight of late following reports of \u2018inactivity\u2019 at the team ahead of the new season. The team\u2019s pre-season training was yet to start this past Friday.<\/p>\n

Statement<\/b><\/p>\n

Swallows Management Committee (MC) Chairman Andreas Lukhele had told our sister publication, Eswatini News, that they would issue a statement soon regarding the state of affairs at the side. \u201cI can\u2019t comment now until we release a press statement. Also on the team\u2019s pre-season training, we are fixing that. We are not in a hurry and the team will be back at training,\u201d Lukhele was quoted saying. Following the situation of the side, their neighbours\u2019 Managing Director, Chief Ally Kgomongwe, was quoted this past weekend pledging to support Swallows in their bid to stabilise the outfit. \u201cI can help them find a co-director or any sort of help. We are brothers in football so we need to help one another. In Eswatini, for the league to be competitive, the big three must always be at their best,\u201d said Kgomongwe. Swallows are also currently without a spokesperson after the resignation of Marketing and Communications Manager Mancoba Mabuza over a week ago.<\/p>\n
