Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Local farmers will soon be required to supply Eswatini Oil Mill (EOM) factory with products amounting to E1.5 billion.<\/b><\/p>\n

This opportunity will soon be availed to local farmers once the project that is currently under way at Eswatini Oil Mill comes to completion in July 2023.<\/p>\n

This was revealed by the Minister of Commerce Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo yesterday during a tour of the construction project currently taking place there.<\/p>\n

According to Khumalo, the products that will be required for this investment will cost an estimated E1.5bn and will be sourced from local farmers pumping back into the agriculture sector.<\/p>\n

He added that there would be about E1.2 billion raw material supplies to the local animal feed industry, replacing imports and 500 tones\/day supply chain. The minister said Eswatini Oil Mills was among one of the companies that brought millions of Emalangeni into the country in direct foreign investments. He said Eswatini Oil Mills was one of the projects in-line with the economic recovery strategy that was launched in 2019.<\/p>\n

According to Khumalo, Eswatini Oil Mills (EOM) brings E450M in Foreign Direct Investment into the country. \u201cThe company received government support in the provision of land for this project. This project is a collaboration effort whose key stakeholders are Eswatini Oil Mill Industries (EOM), South African companies and a Singaporean company,\u201d the minister stated.<\/p>\n

He added that the project would create at least 200 direct permanent jobs in various positions and during construction 150 construction workers have been on site.<\/p>\n

Eswatini Oil Mill Director Daniel Shabangu said the company was owned by Portuguese directors of which two were based in the kingdom while five were not local. He mentioned that the company was set to produce raw material for EOM factory in Matsapha and close to E300 million capital was put in for it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe received assistance of which one is from the Eswatini Government we were able to buy our land from the ministry of commerce,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He stated that another assistance they received came from financial partners from companies in South Africa and through a partnership they had from Singapore Company and tech partners from India.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll this has made the total investment to be at E450 million,\u201d he said. He mentioned that the mill would provide a number of opportunities for locals as the company had the capacity to process soya seed as mainly soya would be used.<\/p>\n

\u201cLocal Soya farmers will highly benefit as the mill will be sourcing the soya and uses five mills per day for 365 days which is E1.5 billion in procurement over a year,\u201d said Shabangu.<\/p>\n

Eswatini Oil Mills Managing Director (MD) Mahomed Daud said they were currently in talks with the NAMBoard management regarding the local farmers supplying the soya.<\/p>\n

\u2018There is so much potential for the farmers in the country and we will be using them for a long time.\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
