Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Ludzidzini Royal Residence – SADC Troika Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation will host a meeting to discuss issues affecting peace and security in Eswatini.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was stated by His Majesty the King Mswati III during a briefing session on his official trips at Ludzidzini Royal Residence upon his return yesterday. His Majesty confirmed that this was decided during the 42nd SADC Ordinary Summit for Heads of State and Government that was held in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n

He said SADC Troika + Eswatini would analyse the situation on the ground in the country, find solutions to ensure and help restore peace, stability and security as the country was known for being peaceful.<\/p>\n

The King said this was decided after they reported what had been happening in the country since last year, and how after the recommendation of SADC Troika Chairman President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa to hold Sibaya dialogue, the civil unrest and more continued.<\/p>\n

“We reported that structures continued to be burnt in arson attacks, property vandalised and burnt and there was a continued spate of killings even after the SADC delegation and Troika Chairman visited the country. We reported that calling Sibaya for dialogue would have been in vain and futile as there was continued intimidation,\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSADC strongly condemned these acts, surprised that the violent attacks continue to be effected by tidlamlilo and declared that they would support everything that was constitutionally done. It was then that SADC decided that a SADC Troika + Eswatini meeting should be held,” stated the King.<\/p>\n

His Majesty also said the summit\u2019s theme promoting industrialisation through agro-processing, mineral beneficiation and regional value chains for inclusive and resilient economic growth will help stabilise economies that were affected by the pandemic COVID-19 and climate change.<\/p>\n

He said they deliberated on how economic recovery could be made through profit making projects and exporting finished products out of the region instead of raw materials.<\/p>\n

He also said the summit was great and fruitful as they discussed how to curb conflicts, COVID-19 effects, food insecurity and more.<\/p>\n

The King further emphasised that one of SADC\u2019s mandates was to look into economies, welfare, peace and stability in the member states.<\/p>\n

\u201cSADC also awarded its founding members that included King Sobhuza II, remembering how the organisation came about. The founders had certain objectives and aimed to see how the region performs, left structures and instruments in place that we are still using,\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be no country that is left to deal with its issues in isolation in the region and not be assisted especially when the situations affect the welfare of the people. We will continue to do things accordingly and not be intimidated which also violates the human rights charter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

His Majesty added that the country subscribed to the United Nations Charter, which had a chapter on the Bill of Rights. He said the summit was indeed fruitful as every country was able to lay bare what was currently happening in their countries.<\/p>\n

The King also disclosed that SADC Deputy Secretary Angele Makombo N’Tumba was elected and blessed by the SADC countries.<\/p>\n

Adding, His Majesty said with the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo they witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding signed by the ministers of foreign affairs to strengthen bilateral cooperation in electricity production, agriculture, civil service, infrastructure development and tourism. He stated that the latter was a sector that had significantly increased the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Indonesia.<\/p>\n

The King also said they met and engaged Indonesian business people who were keen to invest in African countries. He added that that country also had expertise on civil service, which could benefit and empower Eswatini after discussions on decentralisation and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cSocial media made it possible for the ministry of commerce, industry and trade and Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority representatives to make presentations to the investors and respond to their questions concerning natural resources and agriculture,\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that the presentations will bear positive fruits and hopefully a bright future for the country. They take minimal time to implement investment in the civil service as they are well versed in this regard,” the King added.<\/p>\n

Further, he said the education and health were some of the sectors that would be assisted through the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD), through E507 billion (US$ 30 billion) injected by Japan for Africa.<\/p>\n

The King said this was disclosed during the TICAD held in Tunisia where each country was urged to ascertain which programmes they wanted to implement benefitting from this assistance.<\/p>\n

“African countries were encouraged to make structures that include start-up companies, so that Japan could work with them in each and every country. They said they were readily available to work with the start-up companies. The private sector must structure itself well on how to access the money; like the Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n

TICAD has become huge such that financial financiers like the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the African Development Bank were represented to consider different ways on how development could be coordinated. Japan is no longer alone in this initiative,” concluded His Majesty.<\/p>\n

He further noted that TICAD was normally held in Japan but this time around alternated to Tunisia where Japan\u2019s Prime Minister virtually presented and announced monies received from Japan\u2019s government and the private sector.<\/p>\n

Concluding, he said the structures must be serviceable, have water and electricity supply and the roads and rail infrastructure in a good condition.<\/p>\n

On the 54th Independence Day, the King wished the country well, to grow in leaps and bounds in all aspects including economy, peace and security.<\/p>\n

He also wished that events like the Umhlanga Reed Dance increase in attendance especially after COVID-19 regulations restricted gatherings in large numbers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome members of the SADC showed interest in coming for the reed dance. We wish the nation well and happy 54th independence,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
