Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Sikhuphe HIS Majesty King Mswati III yesterday left the country for the United States of America where he will join other heads of State for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77). His Majesty was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaNgangaza on the working trip.<\/b><\/p>\n

The assembly starts tomorrow where a number of heads of state from the 193 Member States are expected to attend. The General Secretary of UNGA is expected to deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n

His Majesty departed at around 7am where a number of well-wishers gathered to see him off. Also forming part of the King\u2019s delegation were Cabinet ministers Thuli Dladla of Foreign Affairs, Manqoba Khumalo of Commerce Industry and Trade and Moses Vilakati of Tourism and Environmental Affairs.<\/p>\n

Others were the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi and Minister of education and Training Lady Howard-Mabuza. Chief Senzangakhona was also part of the King\u2019s delegation, according to the Principal Secretary in the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Newman Ntshangase, who was at the airport to see His Majesty off.<\/p>\n

Emazinyane and members of Emabandla and officials from the King\u2019s Office, who included the Chief Officer, Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze were also part of the King\u2019s delegation. Ntshangase noted that the King would further proceed on a private visit to Mexico once he was done with the activities in the United States, which include business meetings.<\/p>\n

Emakhosikati, Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini, Cabinet ministers, chiefs and legislators were also at the airport when the King left the country through the King Mswati III International Airport on board Siyinqaba Private Jet.<\/p>\n

Lacwebetelako who included members of the Royal family and tindvuna were heard singing Inqaba Kanqofula as they wished the king and his delegation a safe trip. Meanwhile, CSABA K?R\u00d6SI is the current President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) whose main objective is that of being a policy-making organ of the organisation.<\/p>\n

Comprising all member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations have an equal vote.<\/p>\n

Preparatory meetings and other sessions leading to the main assembly start tomorrow and are officially expected to end on Wednesday as there are other sessions to continue after the high level meeting.<\/p>\n

The assembly also makes key decisions for the UN, including appointing the Secretary-General on the recommendation of the Security Council, electing the non-permanent members of the Security Council and approving the UN budget. The assembly meets in regular sessions from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.<\/p>\n

It discusses specific issues through dedicated agenda items or sub-items, which lead to the adoption of resolutions. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UN General Assembly has been carrying out its work since 2020 via novel means to guarantee business continuity and mitigate the spread of the disease. Specific examples include the use of virtual platforms to conduct meetings and the adoption of e-voting through procedure for decision-making when an in-person meeting is not possible.<\/p>\n
