Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Senator Lizzie Nkosi, the Minister of Health says the deadly cough syrups medication manufactured by an Indian company is not available in stock within the Kingdom of eSwatini.<\/b><\/p>\n

This comes after the World Health Organization(WHO) issued an alert regarding the deadly cough syrups that allegedly killed sixty-six(66) children in The Gambia.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the global alert from the World Health Organization(WHO) on four cough syrups manufactured by an Indian company, that are said to be potentially linked to the death of 66 children in the Gambia, the Ministry of Health wishes to update the Nation as follows: The Kingdom of Eswatini does NOT have these medicines in the public sector. On 5 October 2022, the World Health Organization issued Medical Product Alert No.6 of 2022, which the Ministry shared with the private sector to alert them of this, and they were advised that should they, by any chance, have these medications in stock, they should contact the Medicines Regulatory Unit(MRU$ under the Ministry of Heath. To this date, we have not received any reports confirming availability of these cough syrups in the private sector as well, nor do we have any of these in the MRU database of medicines registered by the importers of medicines into the country,\u201d reads a statement, in part, released by the Health Minister on Saturday.<\/p>\n
