Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>EswatiniBank\u2019s Small Micro Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) unit has, for the past three years, disbursed funds exceeding E179 million to SMMEs across the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

This was disclosed by the bank\u2019s Managing Director, Nozizwe Mulela, during the EswatiniBank SMME Business Forum held at Esibayeni Lodge yesterday.<\/p>\n

The MD said the bank,whose main mandate is to develop the nation . through financial services and credit extension, has an SMME Unit driving the SMME funding in all four regions of the country.<\/p>\n

She mentioned that the disbursed loans in 2022 doubled because of the E45 million Revolving Fund.<\/p>\n

Struggled<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cThe beneficiaries of this fund were mainly the informal sector which has always struggled in accessing finance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mulela stated that as a bank, they continued to ensure customer-centricity through training and forums, while maximising the small-scale loan guarantee scheme, export credit guarantee scheme and the MSME revolving fund.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is done in order to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, including Junior Achievement (JA), Centre for Financial Inclusion (CFI), the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and SEDCO and this has had countless positives, such as job creation, economic growth stimulation and poverty reduction through the use of technology,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

She said the unit was working on expanding its footprint in the MSME sector of Eswatini.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative involves partnering directly with MSMEs in the country and introducing personalised services to our customers,\u201d said Mulela.<\/p>\n

The MD added that they had other initiatives in the pipeline which included enlarging their footprint across the country by opening a new branch at Buhleni and offering services that meet worldwide standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough these expansions, we want to make our services available to all MSMEs, especially to those living in the outskirts of towns,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also stated that a close working relationship between MSMEs and the bank was essential to the growth of their customers and the continued success of the country’s economy.<\/p>\n

Collapse<\/b><\/p>\n

She revealed that following the many challenges that MSMEs faced in the past two years leading to near collapse of the economy, unemployment increased drastically. In the past three years, according to Mulela, sectors that have been leading in economic growth were production as well as information and communication.<\/p>\n

Mulela said in order to grow the country’s economy, they were encouraged to give preference to such businesses.<\/p>\n

She said the informal sector ratios would change to 75 per cent being formal and 25 per cent being, informal sector.<\/p>\n

Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade Director of MSMEs Mluleki Dlamini said there were a number of financial schemes offered by government in order to assist MSMEs and these included the E45 million MSME Revolving Fund, which is housed at EswatiniBank<\/p>\n

Dlamini said another scheme was the Informal Traders Revolving Fund (ITRF) which is housed at FINCORP.<\/p>\n

The director further spoke on the business opportunities that were available for MSMEs.<\/p>\n

He said one of them was in the agriculture and agro-processing as there were global shortages of basic commodities<\/p>\n

SEDCO Senior Manager Business incubation Sikhumbuzo Mbuyisa iunpacked the business incubation process, which he said starts with pre-incubation which involves idea generation followed by incubation, which has start-up and expansion involved and post incubation, which involves the maturing of the business.<\/p>\n

Mbuyisa also spoke of the different services that SEDCO offers to entrepreneurs, which in turn, add value to the entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe offer businesses with infrastructure which includes office space, meeting rooms and communication infrastructure, which in turn benefits the entrepreneurs as their economies of scale decrease the cost of starting a business and benefits from a professional look and brand,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that they also provided entrepreneurs with business services, technical support and financing.<\/p>\n

Financial Schemes by Government<\/b><\/p>\n

– E45 million MSME Revolving Fund housed at EswatiniBank, maximum loan of E100 000, paid over 36 months at 5.5 per cent.<\/p>\n

-Informal Traders Revolving Fund (ITRF)<\/p>\n

This scheme is housed at FINCORP and benefits informal traders with loans of up to E5 000 payable over six months at 1 per cent interest.<\/p>\n

– Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF)<\/p>\n

This scheme is for the youth between 15 – 34 years and is managed by the Youth Enterprise Fund with a maximum loan of E150 000.<\/p>\n

– Small Scale Enterprise Loan Guarantee Scheme (SSELGS)<\/p>\n

This is a collateral scheme managed by Central Bank of Eswatini.<\/p>\n

Businesses can be provided collateral at 95 per cent and 85 per cent for start-ups and existing businesses, respectively.<\/p>\n
