Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Eswatini has this past year welcomed the return of its renowned signature cultural and entertainment events, much to the delight of domestic, regional and international tourists.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival which took place from 30 September to 1 October at the iconic House On Fire in the scenic Malkerns Valley, once again illustrated the power of events in stimulating tourism activity in Eswatini.<\/p>\n

Emerging stylishly as one of the biggest food and fashion events in the region, the Luju Festival was a wholesome serving of culinary exploits, fashion showcases and feel-good music.<\/p>\n

To demonstrate the impact of the festival in driving tourism in Eswatini, statistics gathered by Eswatini Tourism Authority\u2019s (ETA) research department reveal that over 15,900 domestic and international visitors attended the Standard Bank Luju Festival.<\/p>\n

According to the official tourism performance report, during the same period, international visitor arrivals to the country registered 8,069, reflecting a growth of 207.7 per cent when compared to the 5,199 international arrivals registered during the 2021 edition of Luju Festival.<\/p>\n

The report further reveals that a majority of accommodation facilities within the Mbabane-Manzini corridor recorded an impressive average room occupancy rate of 71.7 per cent. The average room occupancy rate was highest for hotels (73.7 per cent) followed by guesthouses (59.3 per cent). On the second day of the Luju Festival, game\/nature reserves recorded a significant average occupancy rate of 62.4 per cent.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the success of the festival and its ability to attract tourists from Eswatini\u2019s top 10 source markets, the Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini Tourism Authority, Linda Nxumalo, cited the importance of collaborative destination marketing citing Eswatini\u2019s partnership with Mpumalanga and Mozambique through the Triland initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ETA recognises the influence that events such as the Luju Festival have in appealing to domestic and regional markets. This is why we intentionally and proactively promoted the festival during our Triland excursion in August where we toured all 3 partner countries. Furthermore, we were pleased with the media reception that Eswatini enjoyed during our media activation held in Mpumalanga in the same month. We were greatly impressed by the enthusiasm demonstrated by members of the media, tour operators and tourist from all 3 countries evidenced by South Africa recording 75.6 per cent in tourist arrivals and Mozambique 8.4 per cent,\u201d said Nxumalo.<\/p>\n

Forecasting future collaborative projects between Eswatini, Mozambique and Mpumalanga, Nxumalo expressed that there were various projects in the pipeline, all aimed at promoting the route. \u201cOur Triland brand roll-out plan includes collaboration in mega events. Therefore, we anticipate higher attendance to Eswatini\u2019s key by tourists from the route and beyond it because Mpumalanga and Mozambique will continue to market our events calendar as we will be marketing theirs,\u201d added Nxumalo.<\/p>\n
