Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Fraud Liaison Committee (FLS) under Eswatini Bankers Association (EBA)b has committed itself into educating Emaswati on how they can avoid fraud.<\/b><\/p>\n

They have done this through fraud awareness campaigns that they had scheduled for the country in all four regions.<\/p>\n

The first one was held in Malkerns on Friday were the different banks under EBA and Royal Eswatini Police Service\u2019s Fraud and Commercial Unit were present to educate the residents there .<\/p>\n

Speaking to attendants Fraud Awareness Ambassador Sibusiso Mndzebele said they were carrying out on fraud awareness campaigns in the form of road shows which would be held in all four regions of the country in the remaining quarter of the year.<\/p>\n

He said as FLS under EBA they saw this need for these campaigns because the festive season was approaching and they needed to educate Emaswati on fraud.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur target is that we go to all four regions of the country especially in November because this is the fraud awareness month,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mndzebele mentioned that the reason for these campaigns is that they note that our customers are becoming victims of fraud particularly this was mostly happening during the COVID-19 period because everyone was now banking online.<\/p>\n

\u201cFraudsters take advantage of the online banking and defrauding customers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said they had seen an increase in customers being victims of online fraud which happens mostly when there is phishing.<\/p>\n

He also encouraged the customers to take note of the way banks communicate with them and avoid clicking on any links.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only way the bank can make changes o your account is only by a customer visiting a bank branch physically,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Eswatini Royal Police Fraud Senior superintendent Nicholas Jele said as the police they also form part of the FLC and they were at the roadshow to warn Emaswati on fraud as the festive season was getting near.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe festive season is the time where most people report to us about money being lost and a lot of fraudsters are active,\u201d he said. He mentioned that the main issue were teaching the nation on was the ATM fraud which has only been showing an increase rather than decreasing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are warning the nation that they must continue to hide their pins when using the ATM and avoid asking for help from strangers at the ATM,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also reminded the people that they must take note of the new ways in using ATMs as they were operated in a way that the card comes out first before the money.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe not that a number of people are not aware of that and they tend to leave their money after taking their cards then report that they did not get money from the ATM yet they didn\u2019t wait for it,\u201d explained Jele.<\/p>\n

FLS Chairperson Nomfundo Mkhatshwa said emphasised on the issues they had encountered with clients which included the clients changing their banking details using the different fraudulent links sent to them.<\/p>\n
