Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Hailing from neighbouring country Botswana, artist Kabo Leburu has relocated to Eswatini with much knowledge of fused indigenous rhythms with a touch of jazz sounds to share with Emaswati.<\/b><\/p>\n

Leburu is a self-taught artist and a trained mechanical engineer who moved from his home country to Eswatini in February 2022.<\/p>\n

He is best known for his talent in playing the acoustic guitar, diatonic harmonica and singing as well.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the entertainment desk, Leburu said his versatility allows him to perform both as a one-man band and in a band setup.<\/p>\n

The sound of a harmonica is what sets him apart, because as a percussive guitar player, he uses rhythms and languages for various parts of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI play guitar and harmonica at the same time with vocals in between. As a percussive guitarist, I have personalised my acoustic guitar to allow me to use it as a percussion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A man of many talents, Leburu said he writes, arranges and sings his songs in a number of languages including Setswana, Kiswahili, English, German, French, Chichewa, Bemba, Sesarwa or San language, Spanish, to name a few and recently added Siswati.<\/p>\n

The artist shared that his move from Botswana to the country has been a beautiful experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe culture, the landscapes, the weather and most importantly the people have made me feel at home. There is a lot that I can and will do as an artist in Eswatini,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Leburu intends to stay in the country as long as he possibly can. This is because he has a day job where he works as a mechanical engineer in one of the leading air-conditioning contractors here.<\/p>\n

Tapping more into his music, Leburu said he gets his inspiration from everything and anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cI write and sing about life, love, nature (both fictional and real life situations). I also get inspiration from other artists from across the world. I am greatly fascinated by cultures, languages, rhythms and I try incorporating the elements in my music in that way accommodating different nationalities that may attend at my performances,\u201d he said. Having been in the country for some months,Leburu has tried to familiarise himself with the country\u2019s arts and culture industry.<\/p>\n

He narrated that the scenario in the country is not that different from what they have in Botswana.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the few African countries I have been to, the arts need more support in terms of funding. The arts works, artists that I have come across here are amazing and the world needs to see thus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that he has interacted with some youth not necessarily in music but some who are aspiring to be entrepreneurs and hungry to succeed in their line of work.<\/p>\n

Wisdom<\/p>\n

Quizzed on what wisdom he would share with upcoming artists in Africa, he said education should come first because the journey would require some level of educational background.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, education should not blind one to think that without education he or she cannot make it as an artist. One important advice is always be professional in all you do and may do your best as you never know who is watching you,\u201d said Leburu.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Leburu said people should expect a different kind of sound and rhythm. He added that he was looking forward to collaborating with various local artists and performing widely for the nation to share his style.<\/p>\n

In a recent performance at Eswatini Theatre Club, Leburu performed alongside Sands as an opening act. \u201cAmazingly, the audience asked for an encore. I and Sands are already in a discussion about joining hands on a song in studio. I also intend to share my art through workshops for upcoming Emaswati artists,\u201d he shared. Leburu added that his current intention was to get his music to the masses through live performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be interested to share the stage and record with other artists locally,\u201d said Leburu.<\/p>\n

Despite his move to the country, Leburu said he has had a few invitations to perform in Botswana and just last week he got an invitation to tour Germany.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately he denied those invitations due to the nature of his work and project that he was currently involved in. \u201cI am unable to travel far although I would have loved to,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Curious music lovers are welcome to see the Botswana-born artist perform at Alliance Francaise in Mbabane on November 4, 2022 where he will be share a stage with Bantu The Tribe.<\/p>\n

Kabo has shared the stage with some of the greatest musicians in this side of the equator; Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, Louis Mhlanga, Paul Hanmer, Socca Moruakgomo among others. Kabo Leburu released his debut album \u2018Footsteps\u2019 in October 2008.<\/p>\n
