Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Denver Sundowns might find themselves in hot soup for donning high-flying South African Mamelodi Sundowns\u2019 kit during the MoMo Cup play-offs on Sunday.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the tournament\u2019s rules and regulations, the \u2018Kappa Boys\u2019 face a E20 000 fine for the shocking incident as the club has allegedly breached the Eswatini Football Association and Premier League of Eswatini commercial rights after they appeared in the MoMo Cup Play-Offs donning the DStv Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns\u2019 yellow jersey.<\/p>\n

In their match against Manzini Sea Birds at Mavuso Sports Centre, the \u2018Kappa Boys\u2019 spotted the Mamelodi Sundowns kit with its main sponsors (Puma, Ubuntu Botho and Hyundai). The Mamelodi Sundowns CAF Champions League gold star also appears on the jersey.<\/p>\n

However, their blue shorts were branded in their familiar brand \u2018Kappa\u2019.<\/p>\n

According to the 2022\/23 MoMo Cup Rules and Regulations Article 12:1, any club that contravenes the article shall be liable to a sanction.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a principle, EFA in conformity to the EFA statutes, is the original owner of all rights emanating from all competitions in its territory as a collective as well as from any other related events coming under its jurisdiction without any restrictions as to content, time and place and law.\u201d Article 12.2 mentions that EFA has granted the PLE commercial rights for the MTN Premier League.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll participating PLE clubs must comply with the media and marketing regulations, including sponsorship terms and they must ensure that their members, officials, players and delegates and applicable third parties also comply with these regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll participating clubs shall wear outfits or soccer jerseys with the appropriate and approved markings of the MTN logo on one sleeve of the soccer jerseys and on shorts during all matches of this league competition. The badges shall be those designed and specified by MTN Eswatini and obtainable from the PLE office.<\/p>\n

Any club that contravenes Article 12 herein above shall be liable to sanction of a summary fine in the amount of E20 000,\u201d reads the article in part. After concerns were raised regarding the team\u2019s colours a questionnaire was sent to the Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya who had not responded by the time of compiling this report late last night.<\/p>\n

Part of the concerns was a clarification regarding the punitive steps to be undertaken against the Kappa Boys, as the team is affectionately known. Meanwhile, Denver Sundowns apologised for the incident through a statement released by the club Chief executive Officer Elvis Dube late last night.<\/p>\n
