Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Ndzingeni Member of Parliament (MP) Lutfo Dlamini provoked laughter among his colleagues when he said Motshane MP Robert Magongo was not suited to be chairman of the ministry of public works and transport portfolio committee.<\/b><\/p>\n

Dlamini said there was a need for a proper chairman for the committee.<\/p>\n

This was during the debate of the ministry\u2019s second quarter performance report.<\/p>\n

Magongo was not present during the debate as he is taking part in the Pan African Parliament (PAP) session currently proceeding in Midrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.<\/p>\n

Dlamini was submitting that the country was in need of a robust road network.<\/p>\n

He suggested that the ministry should be helped to secure loans so that a good road network could be constructed because that was where development started. The legislator touched on the Roads Authority Bill, which he said they were not allowed to make inputs on by Magongo in his capacity as the chairman of the portfolio committee.<\/p>\n

He suspected that the committee, under the chairmanship of Magongo, could have been at sixes and sevens on how they would work on the bill.<\/p>\n

Dlamini said if that was not the case, the bill should have been tabled.<\/p>\n

He further said it was a problem for other MPs not to be given an opportunity to make contributions on important matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are certain things that did not go well on the issue of the Roads Agency and I think next time, we must get a proper chairman of the portfolio committee because when we tried to advise, we were sidelined because people claimed they knew what they were doing. Now it seems as if they do not know what they are supposed to do because we are not seeing any progress,\u201d Dlamini said.<\/p>\n

He said if the roads were properly tarred, their children would be proud of them because that facility would last for a long time.<\/p>\n

Adding, he said the paving of the roads could look cheap but was costly because they needed money to be spent now and again because such roads were easily damaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry my colleague from Ndzingeni, I might be acting in this position but I have to call you to order for attacking our chairman and I might be blamed for not having called you to order as we all know that we have Robert Magongo, who is the chairman of this portfolio committee.<\/p>\n

Please withdraw your statement, lest I get a hiding from my chairman,\u201d said Ntfonjeni MP Sompisi Magagula, who is Magongo\u2019s deputy, provoking further laughter. Dlamini wanted to know the exact statement he was supposed to withdraw as he seemed clueless.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou said there is no chairman of the portfolio committee of the ministry of public works and transport,\u201d Magagula said.<\/p>\n

In response, Dlamini said, \u201cI did not say there is no chairman, but I said we need to get a proper chairman. How are we going to get a proper chairman when there is no chairman in the first place? That is what I said and I can withdraw that, if you want to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Magagula laughed at the sentiments, together with the other MPs and officials.<\/p>\n
