Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span> Timothy Myeni, the Nkilongo Member of Parliament(MP) says it is surprising that Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini now speaks about elections at the time when those who were elected are arrested for speaking for the people and criticizing royalty.<\/p>\n

Cleopas Dlamini, the Prime Minister of eSwatini released a press statement saying Government was already preparing for elections despite the growing calls for democratic reforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were briefed about the preparations for the upcoming national elections taking place in 2023, and are excited about the programme of action that the Elections and Boundaries Commission is putting in place to ensure that emaSwati turn up in their numbers to the polling stations\u201d, said the Eswatini Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Eswatini is a tiny Kingdom ruled by Mswati as an absolute Monarch, the people are only allowed to elect Development Officers(Bucopho) and Members of Parliament(MPs) who are then arrested for criticizing Mswati.<\/p>\n

MP Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were arrested by Mswati\u2019s police merely for demanding democratic reforms on behalf of the people who elected them, they are facing politically motivated terrorism charges.<\/p>\n

Reached for comments, Timothy Myeni, the Nkilongo MP said the Tinkhundla elections have lost credibility because those who were elected were then arrested for speaking for the people..<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I said before, in Swaziland there\u2019s no Parliament because once you speak for the people you are arrested. Now, the Government is talking about elections ignoring the calls by the people for democratic reforms. There\u2019s no Parliament here, these elections are only meant to deceive the international community\u201d, said the Nkilongo.<\/p>\n
