Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo has denied ever referring to junior police officers as terrorists.<\/p>\n

This comes shortly after social media went abuzz with information that Nxumalo had labelled the junior police officers as terrorists, who wanted to hold the Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini, hostage in his own residence.<\/p>\n

According to Nxumalo, he never referred to the junior police officers as terrorists, but rather he emphasised that as police officers, they (junior police officers) were well versed about the rightful channels, which they had to follow when voicing out their grievances.<\/p>\n

He said police officers were technicians of government and therefore, no one could label them as terrorists without having tangible evidence. He said he recently issued a statement, which was further captured by newspaper publications, whereby he spoke about tactics and methods of engagement used by people to voice out their grievances.<\/p>\n

Nxumalo said this propelled other people to interpret those particular individuals in a negative way.<\/p>\n

He said he was aware that the junior officers were planning to pay him a visit and he was not bothered by that.<\/p>\n

Nxumalo said the police officers were more than welcome to visit him at his workplace and not at his home, failing which he was going to report them to the police.<\/p>\n

Misleading<\/b><\/p>\n

The government spokesperson\u2019s clarification comes after junior police and warders said they were law abiding citizens and not terrorists. The officers said Nxumalo had peddled misleading information, which he could not qualify.<\/p>\n

They said these were serious allegations, adding they were not intimidated by the statements. They said the same junior officers now called terrorists were the ones who provided security to senior government officials without complaining.<\/p>\n

They said Nxumalo should stop misleading the nation by linking the plight of junior officers with terrorism, adding they would pay him a visit so that he would give the reasons for making such sentiments.<\/p>\n
