Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Their Majesties have sent a congratulatory message to Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasongo.<\/b><\/p>\n

Through the Acting Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku, they sent the message with regard to the re-election of Mbasongo as President.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the government and people of the Kingdom of Eswatini express their sincere congratulations on your re-election as the president of Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn joining the people of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in the joy of this happy occasion, they express their firm belief that the cordial relations in existence between the two countries will continue to be enhanced and strengthened in the years to come for the mutual benefit of our nations and people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest considerations and best wishes for your continued health as well as peace and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea,\u201d Masuku added.<\/p>\n

According to www.dw.com, the president was re-elected for the sixth term with 95 per cent of the vote. He received 94.9 per cent of the votes cast as election officials announced on Saturday, putting turnout for the vote at 98 per cent.<\/p>\n

The website stated that the two opposing candidates, Andre\u0300s Esono Ondo and Buenaventura Monsuy Asumu, each received around 9 700 and 2 900 of the approximately 413 000 votes in Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n

President Obiang’s ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) also won all seats in the National Assembly and the Senate.<\/p>\n

the West African country of around 1.5 million people has had only two presidents since independence from Spain in 1968 and the current president has ruled for more than 43 years.<\/p>\n
