Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>MBABANE Highlanders are not taking Sunday’s barbaric behaviour by a section of their supporters lightly.<\/b><\/p>\n

By last night, the club’s management was locked in a meeting, finalising a task team that will comprehensively investigate the source of the violence at Mavuso Sports Centre after their 2-1 defeat to Manzini Sea Birds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe MC is in a meeting at the moment and they were discussing the Sunday mayhem. They will come up with key resolutions such as identifying individuals who will form part of the task team that will launch investigations on the shocking incident,\u201d said a source within the \u2018Black Bull\u2019 camp.<\/p>\n

At the sound of the final whistle, like starved tigers somewhere in India’s evergreen forests, alleged Highlanders supporters charged after referee Mbongeni Shongwe with police firing warning shots in what was the ugliest scene in Eswatini football since the derby mayhem of 2014.<\/p>\n

Heartedly<\/p>\n

In a club statement released by Chief Executive Officer Clement Dlamini, Highlanders said the managing director, patrons, Management Committee, National Supporters Committee and the whole Mbabane Highlanders family, whole heartedly condemned the unfortunate incidents of violence and hooliganism which marred their game against Manzini Sea Birds.<\/p>\n

“We take this moment to send our sincerest and unconditional apology to all football stakeholders for such unsporting behaviour. The office of the managing director will surely task a team with the help of the PLE to investigate the causes of such an unfortunate scenario.<\/p>\n

“May we also plead with all our loyal supporters to be always vigilant and guard against hooligans who might pretend to be part of us and tarnish the name and reputation of our team.<\/p>\n

We acknowledge and appreciate efforts of our marshals, supporters and security personnel who were on the ground, trying to control the situation,” the club said.<\/p>\n

Highlanders also assured all stakeholders and the general public that it will take all legitimate steps to restore confidence and trust in the beautiful game.<\/p>\n

Highlanders face up to over E120 000 in fines if found guilty by the Eswatini Football Association Disciplinary Committee for the violence.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by Premier League of Eswatini CEO Kenneth Makhanya, the organisation said it regretted the incident.<\/p>\n
