Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>NEARLY E644 000 was generated at Magoga cattle auction on Wednesday.<\/b><\/p>\n

The auction, which proved to be a success, saw over 80 cattle being sold.<\/p>\n

53 cattle from government were sold and E408 300 was raised. 27 cattle from farmers were sold and E235 900 was generated.<\/p>\n

The highest cow and calf combo sold at E15 000 while the lowest 80kg female calf was sold at E4 000.<\/p>\n

The average price for the auction according to information released by the ministry of agriculture was E8 052.<\/p>\n

Out of the 80 auctioned cattle there were 19 cows, 15 bullocks, nine heifers, 16 oxen and 11 calves. A deposit of E3 000 was paid by bidders on registration.<\/p>\n

The Magoga auction is a hit with farmers as a number of auctions have been held since the beginning of the year. In May 57 cattle out of 70 were sold at a massive cattle auction at Magoga Fattening Ranch which saw the ministry of agriculture generating revenue of E425 100.<\/p>\n

Minister of Agriculture Jabulani Mabuza in an a speech delivered earlier this year disclosed that it was the ministry\u2019s mandate through the Department of Veterinary and Livestock Services to equip livestock producers with adequate knowledge, skills and technical expertise on the efficient management of all resources that will ensure profitable returns, an efficient and sustainable livestock industry.<\/p>\n

He said the thrust was to promote commercialisation of livestock production to ensure food and nutrition security, poverty alleviation and improved living standards of the farming community.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that since the beginning of the year the ministry had conducted over nine auction sales at Bhalekane Fattening Ranch and at dip tank level where farmers generated E4.5 million from the sale of 572 head of cattle.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that feedlot production increased from 159 to 204 operational feedlots, saying in total there were 391 registered feedlots countrywide.<\/p>\n
