He encouraged that even with dissenting views, the nation must find each other again as a united front and this could only be achieved by stopping violence.

Religious leaders in the country recently called on the SADC to push government to facilitate the dialogue in order restore peace and stability.

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), Council of Swaziland Churches and the Methodist Church added their voices to other civil society organisations calling on the regional economic bloc to urge government to facilitate the ‘dialogue’.

In a video sourced from the SADC page, Ndaitwah said they were concerned about the political instability within the region, including the country. She said they were pleased that government and the entire nation agreed on the importance of the national dialogue.

She said the remaining part was to work out the modalities and processes on how the national dialogue would be conducted in order to be effective and in order to ensure that peace and stability prevailed in the country.

Ndaitwah said as SADC particularly the MCO, they hoped that during the next two months, a lot would be done in order to ensure that the terms of reference and all modalities were presented to the Secretariat by February, thus enabling the process to start the dialogue.

She commended government for having committed itself to this deadline to finalise the mechanism or roadmap that would be required to enable the dialogue to comence.

Government Spokesperson, Alpheous Nxumalo, said the Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini, would issue a statement today wherein these elements would be addressed.

Ndaitwah also commended the Kingdom of Lesotho under the new Prime Minister, Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, for the commitment and pledge to advance the reform process as one of the key priorities of government, to pave way for sustainable stability through constitutional amendments.

She said this commitment had given SADC a high level of confidence that they had dealt with the political situation in Lesotho, becoming one of the peaceful and stable country in the region.

With regard to Mozambique, she stated that they were in a process of enhancing the region with support staff as they were in transition to scenario five.

She expressed continued regional commitment and solidarity to the Government of Mozambique in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in the Cabo Delgado Province through the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), which was deployed in July, 2021.

“We express condolences to government and families of the deceased as well as the people of the Republic of Botswana and Tanzania on the loss of soldiers who were serving on the SAMIM.

We further wish the one under medical care a quick recovery,”Ndaitwah said. According to Ndaitwah, the security threats in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) call for an immediate action in support of the country.

She condemned the upsurge of conflicts and activities of armed groups including the M23, and the foreign aggressors supporting these groups.

Ndaitwah further highlighted that SADC need to be visible and they would not accept any foreign aggressors intending to interfere with the peaceful core existence in the region by armed groups causing instability.

“SADC will therefore continue to work with the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) in support of the DRC as part of SADC efforts towards maintenance of peace and security,” she said.

According to a statement, the MCO further endorsed the proposal for the Panel of Elders to be composed only of individuals who were former Heads of State or government with the view to increase prospects of success in regional efforts to prevent and resolve significant intra-state and inter-state conflict during high-level political engagements with leaders.

For More News And Analysis About Eswatini Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Eswatini.
