Christopher Simelane said Standard Bank came to their rescue last year when they lost hope as farmers as the effects of the COVID-19 crisis pounded their businesses and they were drowning in debt. \u201cSome of us were contemplating migrating to Mozambique to start a new life there as we had lost all hope. But Standard Bank came to our rescue with financial packages that assisted us in rebuilding our businesses and getting back on our feet. We have been able to pay off the mountains of debts, while at the same time expanding our businesses,\u201d Simelane said.<\/p>\n

Platform<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cUnayo has come as a great relief as we can pay our employees using the digital platform instead of cash. Besides enhancing our safety from criminals as a business and our employees, our transaction costs, including transport, have been significantly reduced and we can keep records for auditing purposes. Through Unayo, and the other Standard Bank products we have, our business continues to make substantial savings in direct costs, which we reinvest into our operations.\u201d Bongekile Gama wanted to know if she could migrate to Standard Bank with the \u2018burden\u2019 of a loan she acquired from another bank.<\/p>\n

In response, Standard Bank\u2019s Head of Commercial Clients Mbongeni Maziya, said it was possible to do so, adding that the bank was always ready to welcome new clients and provide them with a seamless customer-centric and digital experience that encourages continuous engagement and maximises lifetime value. Businessman Morris Matututu Dlamini also praised Standard Bank for organising community engagement sessions to find out from the customers how the institution could serve them better. He wondered if the bank was open to assisting farmers who had several vast tracts of land. The response was that each case is treated on its own merits with consideration of the ability to repay the loan and the viability of the business initiatives, being key considerations.<\/p>\n
