Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo says casting aspersions will achieve nothing more than diversion of the proper context in which the investigations must be located.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nxumalo\u2019s reaction came after there had been allegations that the State security organs were responsible for the murder of the Swazis First Democratic Front (SFDF) Deputy Secretary General, Muzi Mmema. Mmema was found dead yesterday morning around Ntondozi after he was kidnapped by unknown men on Tuesday evening. In his response to the allegations, Nxumalo said such was being narrow-minded and too simplistic to conclude that this person was kidnapped and killed by members of the State security forces, simply because the kidnappers were allegedly using a rented South African registered vehicle. \u201cHow many other companies and emaSwati hire such cars? Did someone even bother to check with some NGOs such as to how many South African registered cars are in their fleet right now?\u201d wondered Nxumalo.<\/p>\n

Kidnap<\/b><\/p>\n

The government spokesperson said besides that, it was now widely known in this country as to whose primary modus operandi it was to kidnap people and murder them in forests and mountains and their murderers had all the audacity to film and publish their killings online. Nxumalo said in this particular painful murder of the person in question, government took the view that like in any other murder case; proper and authentic investigations must be allowed to unfold and those responsible be brought to book. In his actual statement issued yesterday afternoon, Nxumalo said Mmema\u2019s murder was against the backdrop of alarming murder cases taking place across the country in the past weeks, and several other failed attempts to kill police officers in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

He said these unfortunate incidents were sending a two-fold message to the public; that rogue elements in the country were in possession of illegal and unlicenced firearms and that guns were in the hands of trigger-happy individuals who shoot without any reason or specific purpose. He added that government condemned these barbaric and criminal activities.<\/p>\n

On Monday, unknown men shot at the Prime Minister (PM) Cleopas Sipho Dlamini\u2019s escort vehicle, while driving past Mhlaleni. The Toyota Hilux GD6 double cab was travelling two police officers who form part of the PM\u2019s security detail. Meanwhile, on Monday last week, three police officers were shot by unknown gunmen while at Kwaluseni. The officers were reportedly receiving medical attention in one of the country\u2019s health facilities.<\/p>\n
