Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Premier League of Eswatini is racing against the clock as there are more knockout competitions lined-up before the end of the season.<\/b><\/p>\n

The organisation has only staged one cup competition since the start of the current 2022 \u201323 season being the inaugural MoMo Cup.<\/p>\n

Football lovers could be in for a treat with the PLE planning to stage more tournaments in the current football calendar.<\/p>\n

However, the plan is hanging in the balance as only four months are left before the end of the current campaign.<\/p>\n

Competitions<\/p>\n

The organisation could find itself staging the usual cup competitions such as the Ingwenyama Cup, which features regional clubs and the EswatiniBank Cup, which carries a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup. PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya said there were competitions in the pipeline, but did not reveal the names of the tournaments and the tentative dates.<\/p>\n

Conundrum<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we are working on at least two more knockouts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The conundrum further lies in the fact that the current MTN Premier League season has not gone past the first round at the turn of the new year with 10 games played so far.<\/p>\n

There are still three more games before the end of the first round, which carries a E100 000 carrot.<\/p>\n

The delay was caused by the fact that the league competition had to start nearly a month after it had originally been scheduled to start.<\/p>\n

The new MTN FinTech MoMo Cup competition was played by 25 clubs from the Premier League and National First Division, where the high-flying side Nsingizini Hotspurs walked away with the E600 000 first prize money of the E2 million worth tournament.<\/p>\n
