Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) has described Maseko as one who was of a balanced mind.<\/b><\/p>\n

The federation said this through the voice of its Secretary General Mduduzi Gina, who said Maseko believed in peaceful resolution of disputes. He said he strongly believed in dialogue as the only tool for the resolution of political disputes and conflicts. \u201cHe was of a balanced mind. He recognised the role for each sector of society in the political development of the country,\u201d Gina said. On another note, he said as a federation, they condemned his killing in the strongest terms possible.<\/p>\n

In trade unionism, he said Maseko represented the federation in its politically motivated deregistration during the period 2012 and 2015. He said the federation had pronounced its discomfort with the way the elections under the Tinkhundla System were proceeded with. In the middle of the deregistration litigation, he said Maseko was arrested allegedly for contempt of court charges for having questioned the way the then chief justice was generally conducting the affairs of the Judiciary and was subsequently sentenced to two years without an option of a fine.<\/p>\n

He said these allegedly politically motivated charges were confirmed to be false and an attack on the Constitution by the Supreme Court. He said at that time, Maseko had already finished his unlawful sentence when the Supreme Court found that his arrest and sentence was in the first place unlawful and an infringement of the right to freedom of expression. In him, he said the federation had learnt the culture and importance of tolerance of dissenting views. He said the deceased had become a glue that kept the progressive mass democratic movement together. In that regard, he said they would never be the same without him. He said his strong views on the need for dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts would have benefited the country. Moreover, he said a challenge had been thrown to each one of them, to take the baton, continue the noble journey for the total democratisation of the country. He said Maseko taught them that their struggle should be that of peace and love.<\/p>\n
