Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>DSTV price hikes, effective from April 1, will not affect MultiChoice Eswatini subscribers at least for now. MultiChoice Eswatini Marketing Officer Khetsiwe Mhlongo said they had not received any memo informing them to increase their prices. She said however, if there would be any changes they would communicate to their customers.<\/p>\n

The DStv price hikes were announced yesterday by MultiChoice South Africa CEO Nyiko Shiburi.<\/p>\n

The new fee schedule includes increases on most of the broadcaster\u2019s packages, with a weighted 2.7 per cent increase adjustment across all DStv\u2019s offerings. DStv SA said the adjustments came after a period of \u201cincreased value offerings\u201d in the form of local and international general entertainment and sports content, DStv Internet, and DStv Rewards.<\/p>\n

The broadcaster added it had considered the challenges facing South African consumers and absorbed as much of the increase of the cost of doing business as possible to implement minimal adjustments.<\/p>\n

For the top-end DStv Premium package, South African subscribers will pay E10 more per month, which works out to an increase of about 1.21 per cent and takes the monthly fee to E839.<\/p>\n

Compact Plus subscribers will also pay E10 more, an effective increase of 1.86 per cent that makes their price E 549 per month. Mid-tier and low-end package subscribers will bear the brunt of the increases.<\/p>\n

The biggest hike is for Compact subscribers, who will have to fork out E20 more per month, an increase of 4.89 per cent DStv\u2019s Family and Access plans will be E14 and E5 more expensive per month, respectively.<\/p>\n

These reflect increases of 4.75 per cent and 4.35 per cent. MultiChoice SA COO Simon Camerer explained that this was down to DStv\u2019s hyper content strategy aimed at subscribers in these packages. \u201cWe\u2019ve now got Big Brother Mzansi, and have generated a whole host of SA content across our Mzansi packages and even into our Mzansi Wethu packages, where we are bringing new content on board,\u201d Camerer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think that strategy around strengthening our local offering is certainly where we feel our customers want their entertainment experience and as result, you will find the cost pressures in those areas are probably more.\u201d<\/p>\n

EasyView, Showmax, Add Movies and BoxOffice prices will remain unchanged. The table below compares the current month-to-month fees of DStv packages with the prices that will take effect from April 1.<\/p>\n
