Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Acting Prime Minister, Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku has promised the country another regional psychiatric hospital.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) who is holding the fort for Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini said only demand will make government build another psychiatric hospital for mental health-related illnesses.<\/p>\n

Masuku said for now people can use the available free counseling services provided in hospitals and communities. He was speaking during a press conference held earlier yesterday at the cabinet offices.<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment is concerned about the rate of suicides that are currently taking place in the country. Over the past three months, a total of 46 people have taken their lives, according to the police, an average of 15 a month.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an indication of a serious mental health challenge faced by our society. Government wishes to encourage emaSwati to get help if they suspect they may be falling into depression,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Worth noting is that the country currently has one psychiatric centre in Manzini.<\/p>\n

To this Masuku, said Government offers mental healthcare services free of charge.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do also encourage family members to regularly check on each other so that we can promptly detect when our loved ones show even the remotest signs of depression. \u201cJust by being there and listening, you may save a life. We need everyone alive, no matter the challenges that we may individually be facing. No one alive is a mistake, we all have a purpose in life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
