Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The Swaziland Association of Government Accounting Personnel (SNAGAP) has entrusted a female with the responsibilities of leading the association.<\/b><\/p>\n

This happened yesterday when the accountants elected Dumile Dlamini to be their president.<\/p>\n

This was during SNAGAP\u2019s annual general meeting (AGM), at Hilton Garden Inn, Mbabane yesterday.<\/p>\n

Dlamini succeeded Eric Ndlovu, who has been at the helm since 2017. Four other females were elected into the 10-member SNAGAP executive committee. They include Phumzile Masilela (secretary general), Queen Masimula (vice secretary general), Sitakele Dlamini and Lindiwe Lukhele (members).<\/p>\n

Other members of the executive committee include Sipho Mhlanga (vice president), Mlungisi Malinga (treasurer), Ntobeko Khumalo (organising secretary), Musa Maseko and Sipho Edward Mhlanga (members).
\nThe members were tasked with converting SNAGAP from being an association to being a trade union.<\/p>\n

The difference between an association and a union is that an association represents interests of a profession so that it gives a better service to the public, while a union negotiates for better working conditions for its workers.<\/p>\n

Transpired<\/b><\/p>\n

It transpired during the AGM that SNAGAP had no power to negotiate for better working conditions on behalf of its members.
\nIt also transpired that the association, after being unionised, will affiliate to the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA).<\/p>\n

This came as good news to members of other public sector associations (PSAs) like SNAT and NAPSAWU. These organisations were represented by President Mbongwa Dlamini and so Thulani Hlatshwayo, respectively.<\/p>\n

They stated that SNAGAP took a good decision to join TUCOSWA and that would mean government workers would have more negotiating powers with government. They said all along government got the better deal in its negotiations with the PSAs because SNAGAP had not assumed the status of a union.<\/p>\n
