Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>Eswatini Road Freight Association (ERFA) will suspend operations today in light of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) national shutdown.<\/b><\/p>\n

This comes after the EFF through their leader, Julius Malema, called for a national shutdown today to demand electricity and the resignation of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n

EEF urged all business and industrial activity to stop for the day, and for all workers and students to stay home.<\/p>\n

In addition to the total shutdown, EFF announced that there would be marches in major cities and high risk areas have been identified.<\/p>\n

Assess<\/p>\n

ERFA Chairperson, Sihlangu Nhlabatsi, said they decided temporarily to halt operations and assess the situation amid the proposed action.<\/p>\n

Nhlabatsi said after a thorough assessment of the situation, they would then take it from there.<\/p>\n

He said the decision was also influenced by the fact that many establishments would not be operational since it would also be a public holiday tomorrow – Human Rights Day.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Eswatini Interstate Transport Association said it would assess the situation.<\/p>\n

The association\u2019s Secretary General, Nathi Magagula, said given that their South African counterparts had not communicated anything regarding the issue of borders, they would ferry their customers to South Africa as normal.<\/p>\n

However, he said they would send the first public transport vehicle in the morning, which would help inform whether they should halt operations or not.<\/p>\n

He said their decision would be based on whether the vehicles that would depart early would encounter challenges along the way.<\/p>\n

Magagula said if the first public transport encounters challenges, they would immediately suspend operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to engage a wait-and- see attitude and then we will take it from there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This, Magagula said was because, they did not receive any formal instructions from their counterparts in RSA to halt operations.<\/p>\n
