In random interviews with some chiefs, they shared the same sentiments, that they would, by no means, hide or protect their subjects if the confiscation or sale of their properties earned through fraudulent means were warranted by the law. \u201cIt is unfortunate that the confiscation and sale of properties earned through proceeds of crime affect children who had nothing to do with the criminal activities. \u201cAs chiefs, we do not condone crime. We will allow the law to take its course, even if the properties were built in the sea. EmaSwati should not feed their children sin as they all have a duty to prevent crime,\u201d said Chief Gija, who also serves as Manzini Regional Administrator.<\/p>\n

On another note, Chief Gija was asked about possibilities of rejecting a person who purchased a piece of land through POCA during the kukhonta process. In response, the chief stated that the kukhonta process did not discriminate, but was equally applied to all emaSwati. However, the chief elected to shed light on the kukhonta process in general. He said royal kraals\u2019 inner councils had a duty to do a background check for every newcomer before approving the allocation of land. He said the royal kraal had to trace the background from the previous royal kraal to ensure that they did not accept a person who would cause trouble to society. He made an example about a murderer (lijabhane), stating that no one could afford to live with a criminal. \u201cIf the vetting process points out that the newcomer is a murderer or anything that is not accepted in the community, the royal kraal will have to let them go and try another chiefdom,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
