Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>The European Union and Africa commit to increasing scientific cooperation between European and African researchers, as well as the sharing of technology and knowledge, including through an AU-EU Innovation Agenda.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the joint declaration of the Europe-Africa summit, which took place on Thursday and yesterday, in Brussels, the two blocks will also encourage the exchange of young people, volunteers and students, through the Erasmus+ program and partnerships between universities, as well as the artists and works of art between the two continents, encouraging “mutual commitment to the restitution of cultural goods and promoting access to and protection of cultural heritage” euros, which includes packages in the areas of Health and Education, and the two sides commit to increasing regional and continental economic integration, in particular through the African Continental Free Trade Area.<\/p>\n

With the aim of “renewed and strengthened cooperation for peace and security”, and maintaining the principle “African solutions to African problems”, the two sides undertake to support “adequate training, capacity building and equipment, to strengthen and intensify the autonomous peace operations of African defense and security forces, notably through EU missions and assistance measures.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the context of migration, a hot topic in relations between Europe and Africa, both sides promise to \u201cwork in a spirit of joint responsibility and commitment, in full respect of international law and fundamental human rights\u201d.<\/p>\n

Europeans and Africans commit to “prevent irregular migration, strengthen cooperation against smuggling and trafficking in human beings, supporting border management and achieving effective improvements in return, readmission and reintegration, including the promotion of voluntary return \u201d.<\/p>\n

Leaders end the joint declaration with a \u201ccommitment to multilateralism\u201d, with the United Nations at its center, with the aim of reducing global inequalities, increasing solidarity, combating and mitigating climate change and improving the supply of \u201cgoods\u201d. global audiences\u201d.<\/p>\n

Support WTO reform, contribute to UN system reform efforts, including the Security Council, ensure the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the conclusions of the parties’ meetings on climate change (COP), and work together to develop an agreement prevention and response to pandemics are other commitments by the leaders gathered in Brussels.<\/p>\n
