Africa-Press – Eswatini. <\/strong><\/span>After almost a year, Central Bank Governor Dr Phil Mnisi has been replaced as the Chairperson of the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC).<\/b><\/p>\n

On Thursday, acting Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Jabulani Mabuza announced Patrick Myeni as the new Chairperson. Myeni is currently the General Manager of Operations at the Royal Eswatini Sugar (RES) Cooperation.<\/p>\n

Other members of the EEC Board are HRH Princess Sibahle, Hlobisile Ndzimandze (Deputy Chairperson), Thandazile Dlamini, Henry Shongwe, Esau Zwane, Velile Dlamini and Winnie Stewart.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Myeni puts to rest an issue that has for months been raised to the effect that Mnisi was not supposed to continue at the EEC Board following his appointment as the CBE Governor in July last year.<\/p>\n

Mnisi is known to serve on multiple boards of public enterprises, but his appointment meant that he had to relinquish his membership in most of them because the CBE influences the economy and the operations of public enterprises.<\/p>\n

Before joining the CBE, effective August last year, Mnisi was the Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini Sugar Association (ESA) and also Chairman of the EswatiniBank.<\/p>\n

He was also the Chairman of the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) and also held the same position in the Royal Commission for Politicians\u2019 Remuneration and Chairman of the Resource Mobilisation Committee.<\/p>\n

The Central Bank of Swaziland Order of 1974 stipulates that the governor and deputy shall devote the whole of their professional services to the bank. It also states that while holding office, the two shall not, without the written approval of the minister receive any salary or supplement thereto from any other source other than the bank.<\/p>\n

Also, it stipulates that the two shall not, without the written approval of the minister, occupy any other office or employment, whether remunerated or not, except as nominees of the bank or board.<\/p>\n
